COPY & PASTE
To take information, like words or graphics from one place to another you can copy them, then paste them in another place or program.
For example, if you are on the internet and see something you would like to keep on your computer, you can SELECT it, then COPY it by pressing the keys Ctrl+C. Then go to where you want to copy it, maybe Microsoft Word. Open a new document and press Ctrl+V. This will copy your information into the document.


FIND A WORD
To find a word on a webpage or in a document, press & hold down the "CTRL" key, then press the "F" key. This will bring up the find box where you type in the word you are looking for. You then hit "Next" or press the "F3" key to the next instance of the word.


MAKE A NEW FOLDER
A folder holds files. To create a new folder left click Start/Programs/Accessories/Windows Explorer. Left click on "My Computer", then "Local Disk (C)". This is where most of your folders are. Now left click "File", "New", "Folder". A "New Folder" will appear on the right. You can now re-name the new folder to whatever you want, for example "Pictures", "Videos", "Downloads", etc. Hit "Enter" and you are done.


PRINT WHATEVER IS CURRENTLY ON YOUR MONITOR
To print whatever is currently showing on the monitor, hit "Print Screen" on the keyboard. This copies the image to the Clipboard. Then open a program such as Word and paste it (Ctrl + V). Then print it ("File", "Print").


PRINT PART OF A PAGE
Select the part to be printed. Click "File", "Print", check the box "Selection", click "OK".


TEXT, ENLARGE
Hold the Ctrl key & use the scroll wheel on the mouse. This works in Internet Explorer & other programs like Word. Another method is to hold down the Ctrl key and press the + and - keys to make text larger and smaller.


START A PROGRAM EVERY TIME THE COMPUTER STARTS
Go to "Start", "Programs". Right click on "Startup". Choose "Open". Now you can drag & drop any program shortcut in this window & it will start every time the computer is turned on.


SHOW CONNECTION ICON IN TASKBAR - Windows XP
To place an icon in the Taskbar which will light up when information is flowing from the Internet, click "Start", then "Settings", then "Network Connections". Right click on the connection and click on "Properties". In the bottom of the pane, check the box "Show icon in notification area when connected". Click "OK".
